This compilation focuses on Billy Gayles, one of the finest vocalists discovered by Ike Turner. With his powerful, expressive voice, Gayles was the perfect complement to Turner’s edgy guitar work. Their partnership yielded a string of electrifying singles, and this compilation showcases the full scope of their combined talents across its twelve tracks.
The duo is backed by an impeccable band, striking a perfect balance between the horn section—led by Raymond Hill and Eddie Jones on virtually every track—and a rhythm section anchored by Jesse Knight’s electric bass, which finds the sweet spot between a danceable groove and rock ‘n’ roll energy.
While seven of these tracks appeared on the recent Ike Turner Rocks compilation (BCD17679), that leaves five others that did not. Moreover, it would be impossible for any sensible music lover to resist this superb, limited-edition, numbered 10-inch record.
