The Swingin’ Black Jacks – Four Hot Tracks!!!

Self-released [2020]
Little Redhead – I Love you So – Never Go Out To Play – Little Easter

I like the Swingin’ Black Jacks. Not only they just released an excellent E.P., but Adam David, their drummer, who is also an actor, played in the Murdoch Mysteries. What’s not to like?
Back to what interests you (especially if you’re not a fan of the Canadian Sherlock Holmes), namely the music. The opening track is a straight-ahead rocker, something like Eddie Cochran meets Chuck Berry, with superb reverb-laden bass and a hot guitar solo. It somehow reminded me of the ever-excellent Leroi Brothers. I Love You So is lighter, with harmony vocals and a Cajun/Zydeco vibe that makes me want to move your feet.
Never Go Out To Play is a groovy blues, sounding halfway between the Paladins and Lee Rocker’s Big Blue. The last track is a heavy rocker, with a touch of Swamp-rock and a hint of 70’s Rock.
The production is superb. Matt Allen has a deep voice which is perfect for the music they play. His guitar tone has the right level of dirtiness, the electric bass is groovy as hell, and the drummer provides a solid backbone, whether he hits his drumkit or play a shuffle on the snare.
I warmly recommend you to buy a copy of this E.P. on the band’s website.
