Wild Ride Tonight – Space Raiders
Two distinct yet perfectly complementary tracks make up this single from the Hi-Speed Rockets—who, much to our delight, truly went all out: the release is available in both vinyl and CD single formats, in a limited edition.
As a quick reminder, the Hi-Speed Rockets hail from Finland and consist of Alex Ojasti (vocals and rhythm guitar), Antti Lehtinen (lead guitar), Janne Anttonen (double bass), and Harri Kunnas (drums).
Wild Ride Tonight is a powerful, melodic piece of rock ’n’ roll. What immediately stands out is the quality and care invested in the production; the track is propelled by an unrelenting drive that perfectly showcases Ojasti’s vocals alongside Lehtinen’s brilliant guitar work.
Space Raiders is every bit as good. Think of Gene Vincent’s Cruisin’—but instead of a hot rod with gleaming chrome, imagine a flying saucer weaving between planets, set to a high-octane rockabilly soundtrack—and you’ll have a pretty good idea of what to expect. It is the perfect embodiment of what modern rockabilly should be.
Once again, it’s worth highlighting the production, which strikes an ideal balance between the vocals and the instrumentation.
